Kidpower International provides training and information. Kidpower is a great hands-on program that does not yet offer classes in North Carolina. Their web site (www.kidpower.org) contains a great deal of useful information.

Child Lures web site (www.childlures.com) offers information on child safety, focusing on avoiding predators.

SafeSkills (www.safeskills.com) is a self-defense training center located in Durham. SafeSkills offers a broad-based approach to personal safety which includes observational, verbal and physical self-protection skills.

The Orange County Rape Crisis Center (www.ocrcc.org) dedicates itself to ending sexual violence by providing educational services to promote the awareness and prevention of sexual violence, and by supporting its victims.

For more information on general safety issues, the Centers of Disease Control sponsors the National Center for Injury Prevention and Control. Their web site (www.cdc.gov/ncipc) can answer almost any question about injury, or direct you to another site that can.

A free, searchable database of sexual offenders by state, address, or name is available at www.publicrecordfinder.com/criminal.html. You can enter your city or zip code, for example, and pull up the names, addresses, and criminal records of registered sexual offenders living in your area.
